1st AD soldier struck, killed by truck on Autobahn
A 1st Armored Division soldier was killed early Friday morning in a roadside accident on Autobahn 45 near Giessen, Germany, according to an Army press release.
Sgt. Robert C. Hobbs, a supply clerk with the Giessen-based 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, and another soldier were refueling a military truck when a civilian-operated tractor-trailer veered off the road and struck Hobbs, the 1st AD release said.
Hobbs, whose age and hometown were not released by military officials, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other soldier, who was not identified, wasn’t injured.
The tractor-trailer’s driver, whose name and nationality were not released, was taken to a nearby hospital and admitted for treatment, according to the release.
The accident is being investigated by U.S. military and German authorities.
