A 1st Armored Division soldier was killed Thursday during combat operations in Anbar province, the military said Friday. No details of the death were announced in the brief news release issued by Multi-National Corps-Iraq.
Identifications of soldiers killed in Iraq, along with their unit names, are withheld pending family notification.
Units from the 1st Armored Division have been involved in heavy fighting in Anbar, mainly in the provincial capital of Ramadi. More than two-dozen 1st AD soldiers have been killed since the units deployed from Germany late last year. Division troops have pushed into the city of Ramadi in an effort to steadily expand the U.S. and Iraqi military security zones there.
