A 32-year-old artillery sergeant was sentenced six months in jail after being convicted by a general court-martial of indecent acts with a minor, according to the 1st Armored Division.

Sgt. Michael Carithers, of Battery C, 1st Battalion, 94th Field Artillery, was convicted Nov. 1 in Wiesbaden, Germany, headquarters of the 1st Armored Division. Carithers, who was assigned to Strassburg Kaserne in Idar-Oberstein, had maintained his innocence, according to a release issued by the division.

In addition to being found guilty of committing indecent acts with a child under the age of 16 years, the noncommissioned officer was tagged for making a false official statement. Carithers’ punishment also included reduction to the grade of private, total forfeiture of all pay and allowances and a bad-conduct discharge, the release said.
