The militaries of 14 nations will participate this summer in the biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise, according to the U.S. 3rd Fleet.

The exercise will be June 23 to Aug. 1 in the Hawaii area and will be hosted by the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

The maneuvers will bring together 34 ships, five submarines, more than 100 aircraft and about 20,000 personnel from the United States, Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand.

Participating units will conduct gunnery, missile, anti-submarine and air defense exercises, as well as maritime interdiction, explosive ordnance disposal, diving and salvage operations, mine clearance operations and an amphibious landing, according to a news release.

Rim of the Pacific 2010 will be the 22nd exercise in the series since it started in 1971.
