Only five players return, three of them starters, eight players new to the island and Panthers baseball. Young team, nine underclassmen and only one senior. Could surprise some, depending on how quickly youngsters develop.

Nile C. Kinnick Red Devils2015 Far East Tournament finish — Third place.Coach — Chad Stark, fourth season.Key performers — Kacey Walker, So., P-C; Ethan Husmann, So., P; Ethan Olson, Sr., 3B; Daulton McCarrel, Sr., 2B; Jonathon Acosta, So., P; Tim McDaniels, Fr., IF; R.J. Delaney, Fr., P (won’t be available until late April due to injury).Outlook — Rebuilding, again, bitten by the transfer bug which claimed team MVP Bradley Burt, with no new incoming upperclassmen. Only two seniors and two juniors on team. But looking to build on late momentum that led to third-place D-I finish. Red Devils have had a penchant for winning the DODEA Japan tournament as well.

Kubasaki Dragons2015 Far East Tournament finish — Runner-up.Coach — Randy Toor, 11th season.Key performers — Kristian Palmer, Sr., P-OF; Hunter Chipman, So., P-SS; Weston Beken, Jr., OF; Adam Garlick, So., OF.Outlook — Rebuilding. Well past the group that won two titles and a bronze medal at D-I. Nine returning players, eight of them sophomores; 14 total underclassmen and just two seniors on the roster. But the eight sophomore returners know what it’s like to play in the title game, Toor said, adding he hopes the six newcomers will mesh in well.

Seoul American Falcons2015 Far East Tournament finish — Sixth place.Coach — Dean Florio, third season.Key performers — Justin White, Jr., 3B; Joshua Gagnet, So., SS-P; Evan Bell, Jr., C-P; Andrew Landin, Jr., OF-P; David Messinger, Jr., OF-P (transferred from Daegu).Outlook — Rebuilding, again. Players continue to move each year and Florio invariably starts every season with a different roster.

Division II

Daegu WarriorsCoach — Marc Boese, first season.Key performers — Jonathon Evans, Sr.; Josh McCaw, Sr.; Tyler Pak, Sr.; Shawn White, Sr.; Cody Wilson, Sr.; Tyler Bailey, Sr.; Anthony Calhoun III, Sr.; Tommy Kazmierczak, Jr.; Ethan Truman, Jr.; Treavon Hampton, So.; Michael Martinez, So.; Royce Oshiro, So.Outlook — Contending for both league and D-II title. Still determining final positions as coaching staff evaluates talent, but 10 players return, including seven seniors. Combination of existing chemistry with new but experienced players could lead to big things.

Robert D. Edgren Eagles2015 Far East Tournament finish — Fifth place.Coach — Brett Lehner, ninth season.Key performers — Noah Ramirez, Jr., 1B-P; Jackson Edmonds, Sr., 3B-OF; Patrick Sledge, Jr., OF-P; Sky Phillips, Sr., OF; Christian Enyeart, Jr., 3B-P.Outlook — Rebuilding. Eagles are always considered late risers because they’re confined indoors much of the early part of the season due to snow and inclement weather. But only three players return from last year; the rest are new faces learning to play together as a team.

Humphreys BlackhawksCoach — Sun Choe, second season.Key performer — Brett Leasure, Sr.; Taylor Marriott, So., 3B; Braxton Long, Jr., C-2B; Matthew Whiting, So., P-1B; Jackson Taylor, Fr., P-IF; Trey Schreurs, P-OF; Jonathon Laurienzo, Fr., IF-OF.Outlook — Reloading. Addition of several new experienced ball players should make the Blackhawks competitive as they point toward the Far East tournament.

E.J. King Cobras2015 Far East Tournament finish — Did not place.Coaches — James Jenkins, first season.Key performers — Tyler Hicks, Sr., C-P-IF; Carlos Thompson, Sr., SS-P; Bryce Szerlag, Sr., P-IF.Outlook — Rebuilding. A work in progress, with last year’s players developing skills.

Osan Cougars2015 Far East Tournament finish — Third place.Coach — Don Tusha, second season.Key performers — Aaron Misner, Sr., P-C-3B; Gregory Yi, So., P-C-SS; Iesah “Ace” Yazzie, Sr., OF; Kevin Polidan, Sr., OF; Joaquin Camacho, So., UT; Darron Miller, Sr.; Chris Moore, Sr.Outlook — Reloading. Hoping to be able to defend the peninsula this season behind veteran arms Misner and Yi, each of whom threw abbreviated no-hitters last regular season. Replacing departed catcher Bryce Neuse will be a chore and Cougars need to develop more arms and be fundamentally sound to compete this season, Tusha said.

Matthew C. Perry SamuraiCoach — Frank Macias, fourth season.2015 Far East Tournament performance — Third place.Key performers — Austin Macias, Sr., 1B-P; Peace Gates, Jr., P-SS (.414 BA); Garrett Macias, So., C-P (.451 BA); Billy Eagmin, Sr., P-SS; Michael Perez, Sr., OF-P (transferred from Jacksonville, N.C.); Chad Schuch, So., IF-P (transferred from Colorado Springs, Colo).Outlook — Contending. Strong returning core augmented by two transfers who are not new to the game. Much will depend on how the rest of the pitching staff develops behind No. 1 starter Gates.

Yokota Panthers2015 Far East Tournament finish — Defending champion.Coach — Steven Ferch, fourth season.Key performers — Jacob Mansberger, Sr., CF-P; Marcus Henagan, Sr., RF-P; Easton Gladue, Sr., 2B-OF; Sotah Silversmith, Jr., C-3B; T.J. Reney, So.; Sean Caffrey, So.; Woody Woodruff, Sr. C-IF (All-Europe transfer from Ramstein, Germany); Taylor Barnes, Jr., 3B-C-OF (travel-team transfer from Arkansas); Troy Barnes, Fr., 2B-SS-P (travel-team transfer from Arkansas).Outlook — Contending for Division II title. Most of the Panthers’ pitching has either graduated or transferred, but getting in Woodruff and the Barnes brothers off the PCS plane was a plus. Could be enough to put the Panthers back over the top.

Zama Trojans2015 Far East Tournament finish — Runner-up.Coach — Tom Dignan, second season.Key performers — Keiyl Sasano, Sr., P-IF; Lawrence Miner, Sr., C-IF; Keanu Cruz, Sr., P-IF; Curtis Blunt, Jr., P-OF; Josh Bayardo, So., P-IF-OF; Tristen Berlemont, So., P-IF; Caleb Carter, Sr., IF-OF; Sam Preston, Jr., OF; Carter Whitton, Fr., OF; Bradley Moore, Fr., IF-OF.Outlook — Contending for second D-II title in three seasons. Pitching remains this team’s strong suit, with four-year veterans Sasano and Cruz as the top two options. Six of nine starters return. If the Trojans stay healthy, they should do well, Dignan said.
