It’s called the Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt, but the fest in Bad Dürkheim, about 18 miles east of Kaiserslautern, Germany, has grown from a meeting place for local farmers and vintners almost 600 years ago to what organizers call the largest wine festival in the world. (There will be plenty of sausages consumed too, of course.) The festival began Sept. 6 and returns for a weekend of food, wine and fun Sept. 13-16.

Adults will enjoy local wines served in traditional stemmed glasses or generously poured in half-liter glasses. There also will be a fair with amusement rides, fireworks displays, and a wine market. Perhaps best of all, the celebration continues around the clock!
