Parents have three weeks to sign kids up for virtual or classroom instruction at DODEA schools

Parents of children in Defense Department schools have until Nov. 6 to enroll them in virtual or face-to-face classes for the second semester, the Department of Defense Education Activity said in a statement.
The registrar at a child’s school is available to help parents who need assistance with the process, a DODEA-Europe spokesman said Friday.
Enrolment can be completed by going to the DODEA Aspen Family Portal at https://familyportal.dodea.edu/aspenparentportal, where a selection for each child has to be made, using a unique login ID and password that will be provided by email, DODEA said.
Parents can choose either online or bricks-and-mortar classes for their children, regardless of which one they were enrolled in, in the fall, the statement said.
If they don’t want to change their children’s learning mode from the first semester, there is no need to complete the registration process, DODEA said.
The three-week open enrollment period began Thursday.
DODEA for the first time this school year made a full-time digital learning option available for all grade levels due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although it’s geared primarily towards students and families with health vulnerabilities or concerns about returning to school, anyone may enroll.
Those opting for virtual school are asked to commit to the program for the entire second semester, DODEA has said.
About one in four students opted for virtual learning in the first semester, DODEA officials said in August.
