Five sets of teammates from title-winning or contending teams headline the 2014 All-Europe softball first team, released this week by athletic director Karen Seadore.

Newly-crowned European champion Patch placed three of its stars on the 12-player team. The Panther presence includes seniors Amber Marvin and Colleen Fenton, the bookend pitching and hitting stars that led Patch’s stirring return to the Division I throne, and sophomore shortstop Shannon Nam.

Vanquished Ramstein earned two first-teamers in sophomore cleanup hitter Zania Sterling and All-Europe stalwart Katherine Enyeart. Vilseck, meanwhile, was rewarded for its strong postseason showing with first-team nods for seniors Brittany Richardson and Kayla Clamage.

Both participants in the all-Italy Division II title game placed two players on the first team. Two-time champ Vicenza saw ace pitcher Megan Buffington and catcher Bayleigh Hall crack the roster, while first baseman Davina Gutierrez and shortstop Erin Dromerhauser made the team for runner-up Naples.

Kaiserslautern senior Alexes Liggins rounded out the first-team selections.

The second team was a more diverse group, featuring 12 players from 10 different schools.

AFNORTH’s Rachel Pagio and Alconbury’s Emily Luong were recognized among six senior second-teamers. But the team also shows evidence of a new crop of talent, as four freshmen – Rota’s Audrey Howard, Hohenfels’ Elexianna Artiaga and Ramstein’s Kristina Poe and Sarah Wilhite – made the second team.
