AVIANO, Italy — Hundreds of people turned out early Friday for a 5-kilometer run and obstacle course in support of wounded warriors in the name of Master Sgt. Israel Del Toro, who was badly injured in Afghanistan in 2005 while deployed with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.
“Doing this run and completing the obstacles are the least we can do compared to the sacrifices and obstacles he’s overcome,” Senior Airman Amber J Swearengin said before the race started.
Del Toro was a member of the 8th Air Support Operations Squadron, when deployed. He suffered burns over 80 percent of his body in a roadside bomb blast.
