Don’t forget daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night and then get up early to enjoy the extra hour of walking. With Monday being a local holiday in many places, you’ll have a long weekend of walks available to choose from.
But first, pull the calendar off the wall and mark these dates for some interesting volksmarches. There will be more information on the walks as the dates draw nearer. All are in Germany, unless noted otherwise.

• The club Schnelle Füsse Koblenz always has a very nice fall walk. This weekend it starts in the town of Winningen, near Koblenz. In the past, the trails in this area have been through forests with resplendent fall foliage and beautiful views of the Moselle river. This year, the walk routes vary from five to 65 kilometers. Organizers are also offering a 25-kilometer bike route. For the shorter distances, the prize is a tea light candle holder with a Nativity scene.
• Reichstett, France, is having a Halloween walk Saturday evening. The Stuttgart German American Wandering Club will be there in force. Club members will first stop in Soufflenheim for pottery shopping and lunch. Then they will head to Reichstett for the walk. We are sure that they will have a blast.
• The walk in Bietigheim has been designated as a “Stamm-tisch” walk for the Stuttgart club, so look for its blue flag and stop by and say “Hi.” The prize for this walk is a B-medal, possibly wind chimes left over from past years.
• Folks in the Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl and Baumholder military communities can enjoy the Kindsbach, Germany, event this weekend beginning in the Mehrzweckhalle by the Bahnhof. The six-, 10- and 20-kilometer routes begin between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m Saturday, and between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. Finish on Saturday by 5 p.m. and Sunday by 4 p.m.• The prize at Monday’s Langenzenn, Germany, walk is a Christmas tablecloth that is about 34 inches square.• Our man with his finger on the pulse of the Italian Volksmarch scene, Clark Soeldner, offers us this information for this weekend: “The walk in Baone is one of my personal favorites. It is located on the south side of the Colle Euganei Park. There is mountain terrain, beautiful panoramas, plenty of restoros, and very friendly people. With all the hills, they prorate the distance credit.”
• This week we tip the old fedora to the following who contributed fliers: William Castro and Maureen McHugh-Castro; Richard and Donna Glenn; John and Evelyn Golembe; Ramona and Horst Kechelen; John, Mary and Tess Laub; Tim and Luchi Lynch; “Pat” and Cheryl Patterson; Wayne Henry; Rick Sciascia; and Nancy Shawley.
