Officially Feb. 20 is called Shrove Tuesday, but for London it’s Pancake Day, a celebration of the meal for which people traditionally used up ingredients like milk and eggs before fasting for Lent. The city’s version of the meal leans more toward indulgence, with restaurants and pubs serving up pancakes and crepes in mouthwatering varieties. Several charity relay races are scheduled, with teams competing to see who can run the fastest while flipping pancakes in a frying pan. Members of Parliament and the press also compete.
