When life gives you lemons, your best option is to head to Lemon Stand Hiroshima for an out-of-this-world citrus-themed meal.

Situated just a lemon’s throw from Peace Memorial Park and Hondori Shopping Street, the Lemon Stand is the perfect spot for any weary traveler, provided they don’t mind standing.

A traditional tachinomi — or standing bar — with a modern twist, Lemon Stand takes advantage of Hiroshima’s status as Japan’s largest domestic producer of lemons by including local Setouchi lemons in most of its dishes.

Meant for quick bites or casual conversations, Lemon Stand’s menu offers a variety of interesting dishes, including fish and chips, raw oysters, caviar, fried chicken and lemon-infused fried squid.

Unsurprisingly, everything goes better with a twist of lemon.

But the real star of Lemon Stand’s show is its drink menu, which offers seven varieties of lemon sours and a smattering of other beverages, including gin-based cocktails, craft beer and wine.

For its flagship drink, the Super Lemon Sour, an unremarkable looking beverage hides a surprising amount of flavor, with a crisp, clean, sour and sweet profile.

To complement a lemon sour, it’s hard to beat a trio of raw oysters. The bar keeps three varieties on hand — each from a different prefecture — and serves them up with plenty of condiments on the side.

For a crispier side, look no further than The Renowned French Fries, offered in such flavors as wasabi, sweet and sour, barbecue and Cajun.
