If the family’s in the mood for an old-fashioned carnival German-style, then head to Frankfurt’s Festplatz am Ratsweg on Friday through April 22 for the annual spring Dippemess.

Originating as a 14th-century crafts market, today’s fair is touted as the biggest in the Rhein-Main area.

There will be amusement rides, ranging from stomach-churning drops to children’s carousels; games; and market stalls with a variety of products, food and drinks.

Thursdays are family days, with half-price rides, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, two children up to age 12 can ride for the price of one.

The fair is open 2-11 p.m. on Mondays through Thursays. 2 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and Easter Sunday, and noon to 11 p.m. Sundays and April 9. It’s closed April 6.
