At the Franconian Beer Fest, what once was a moat surrounding Nuremberg is transformed into a vast beer garden in which 40 local brewers serve more than 100 different beers. Each year, brewers from other countries and regions are invited to take part; this year, Scotland is the guest of honor. Five stages will provide entertainment. Fetes Johanniques in Reims, France, on June 2-3 celebrates the coronation of Charles VII in 1429. In the shadow of the city’s massive cathedral, craftsmen, jesters and troubadours set up house. Enjoy falconry shows, demonstrations of weapons of the time, world music concerts and costumed re-enactors. The coronation procession takes place at 3:30 p.m. June 3. Slow Up AlsaceLocation: Between Selestat and Bergheim, FranceDate: June 3 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) Explore a gorgeous stretch of the Alsatian Wine Route by cycle or foot on a day when the road is closed to motorized traffic. The 20 miles of auto-free highway begin close to the foot of Haut-Koenigsbourg and stretch as far as Bergheim. All participants travel in the same southerly direction.
