European Bike WeekLocation: Faaker See, Austria Dates: Sept. 4-9 Harley-Davidson fans gather from all over Europe and beyond for one of summer’s last hurrahs, a motorcycle meet-up of vast proportions featuring custom shows, live music, group rides, a marketplace and more. A highlight event is the biker’s parade from noon on Saturday, Sept. 8, which typically attracts some 10,000 riders. TaptoeLocation: Grand-Place, Brussels, Belgium Date: Sept. 1 (8 p.m.-10 p.m.) This upbeat parade of music is a military tattoo-like spectacle of light, sound and color featuring brass bands from Belgium and the Netherlands. Le PfifferdajLocation: Ribeauville, France Date: Sept. 2 What’s billed as Alsace’s most ancient festival looks back upon medieval days, when entertainment was provided by minstrels and jesters. Historically costumed characters demonstrate these skills of yesteryear against the backdrop of a picture-perfect village. A highlight of festivities is the parade, which gets underway at 3 p.m. Admission: 8 euros adults; 4 euros for those under the age of 12. Barbarossa-Fest 'Swinging Lautern'Location: City center, Kaiserslautern, Germany Dates: Aug. 30-Sept. 1 (6 p.m.-11 p.m. Aug. 30; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1) Kaiserslautern’s Altstadt and pedestrian zone becomes a massive stage for live music in all genres imaginable, from swing to salsa and rock to jazz. Marching bands enliven the city streets, and numerous stands offer specialties of the region. The program includes an Italian market, artisans market and fashion show, as well as a display of Ferraris and Lamborghinis from noon Saturday at St. Martinsplatz. BierboerseLocation: Schlossgarten, Karlsruhe, Germany Dates: Aug. 31-Sept. 2 Visitors can sample more than 500 traditional and exotic beers here, both domestic and international. The 60 or so stands on site serve up not only lovely suds but the perfect sweet and hearty snacks and meals with which to pair them. Live music rocks two stages. Biennale Cinema— Venice International Film FestivalLocation: Venice, Italy Dates: Aug. 29-Sept. 9 The world’s oldest film festival is filled with glamour, glitz and the chance to sight a passing star; it also offers screenings open to the public. Films are shown in their original language with subtitles. Admission: Ticket prices range from 5 to 45 euros, depending on venue and film shown. Viewers must be at least 6 years of age. Flower ParadeLocation: Zundert, Netherlands Dates: Sept. 2-3 (parade begins at 1 p.m. Sept. 2) Billed at the world’s biggest flower parade, this event sees enormous floats, each bedecked with up to half a million dahlias, wow onlookers with their brilliant bursts of color and inspired designs. Districts of the city compete to build the most beautiful float, and a jury has the final say. Parade day is Sept. 2; on Sept. 3, the floats remain on display and can be admired up close.
