Performance, Week 5Tonight, the rhythm is going to get you, host Tom Bergeron promised. It is ‘80s week on "Dancing with the Stars."

The episode kicked off with a performance from the Bangles. For those of you not alive in, or not familiar with, the '80s, the Bangles are an all-female band known for the song "Walk Like an Egyptian." And yes, there is a little dance move to go with that catchy tune, which I totally did in my living room. The judges did it at their table next to the dance floor.

Welcome back to this week. I heard on the news this morning that we’re halfway through the season. I am totally thrilled that actor and Army veteran J.R. Martinez has not only made it this far, but been at the top or nearly the top of the judges' scores each week. Will he make it to the top this week?

Ahead of each performance, a video is played of one of the judges giving the performer advice about how he or she can take it to the top. Bruno Tonioli says of Martinez, "There is some magic that seems to exude out of him.” I totally agree, Tonioli. Bruno’s advice is that Martinez is so good, he needs to make sure that he gets the tiny details, such as extensions, right.

Before the performance, in the video montage of how #TeamMartinoff prepared for tonight's samba, Martinez points out he’s Latin, and he danced with his mom as he was growing up, so he hopes this gives him an advantage. “It’s really time to step it up and put those hips to good use," his partner, Karina Smirnoff, said. He tapped into his Latin roots with a trip to The Conga Room in Los Angeles. Sheila E was performing. Martinez and Smirnoff danced while they were there. “So far, the judges have only seen J.R. Martinez," Martinez said. "But this week, with the samba, they’re going to see Jose Rene Martinez. Watch out.”

Their samba was to “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine. Such smooth samba rolls! And nice extensions, too! It's like Martinez heard Tonioli. The dance is a lot of fun and very high energy. Both Martinez and Smirnoff are beaming -- and trying to catch their breath -- when it’s over.

From the judges

Len Goodman: “In the future, if anyone says to me, 'How should a guy dance the samba?', I’ll just say, Look at J.R.” His score: 9.

Tonioli: He calls Martinez a "loin-shattering sex machine" and added, "You have so much fire down below, it’s like a volcano!” His score: 10.

Carrie Ann Inaba: “Muy caliente! You’re on fire!” Her score: 9.

#TeamMartinoff's final score was 28, putting them at the top of the leaderboard again. I felt like the scores could have been higher. Someone else asked me what else the guy could do to get a 10. But it looks as if we'll be back here again next week.

What did you think about Martinez’s performance? Do you think he will win this season of "DWTS"? Let us know in the comments below. Check back here tomorrow for the elimination results.

Week 5 update, Oct. 19

J.R. Martinez and his partner made it through another elimination this week on "Dancing with the Stars." TV personality Carson Kressley and his partner Anna Trebunskaya were elminated.

Next week, there will be a group dance in addition to one individual dance for Broadway week.
