La Piazzetta restaurant is nestled on the outskirts of Wiesbaden in Bierstadt.

This local favorite is within walking distance of three Wiesbaden military housing areas and serves true-to-rustic Italian fare while providing a traditional warm Italian dining area. La Piazzetta also offers a sizable outdoor eating area with numerous tables and surrounded by green hedges.

Peter Schreiner, owner/oper-ator and chef, creates Italian dishes with local ingredients and prides his restaurant on capturing the welcoming ambiance of a traditional Italian restaurant.

Having lived in Italy, I can say that La Piazzetta earns an A-plus for providing a realistic, relaxing and comfortable dining experience, nothing short of a Venetian trattoria. From the sunlit windows to the candles and single roses on each table, La Piazzetta welcomes diners to sit down for a good meal and unwind.

Although menus are not in English, the wait staff will accommodate you to the best of its ability. With the menu posted outside, along with the daily lunch specials, patrons should pay special attention to the chalkboard inside the dining area. Current chef’s picks will be noted here.

In true Italian style, my pizza, tagged the “tradizionale,” offered just the right amount of crispiness; a good, solid crust; and didn’t disappoint with the toppings. Covered with sliced tomatoes, a spicy pepperoni and salami, oregano and hearty green olives, the pizza was baked to perfection. All ingredients were fresh and delicious.

My wife ordered the scalop-pine with penne, and it was a good choice. Served with a cream of broccoli soup and a side salad, the cutlets were nicely seasoned and came with a cream sauce with chewy pasta on the side. My wife was most impressed by the freshness of the salad greens and the perfect lemony vinaigrette. Freshness is key here, and my visit to Schreiner’s meticulous kitchen proved that the meal is prepared with pride.

La Piazzetta has a good lunch and dinner menu as well as a child’s menu. On my visit, families were enjoying their meals and highchairs were available.

La Piazzetta earned third place in the 2012 Schlemmerblock Awards, Wiesbaden region. The award recognizes the most popular restaurants, based solely on customer reviews, within each of 79 geographical regions.
