A section of the A62 will be closed for two days this week while roadwork is done in the tunnel near Landstuhl. On Tuesday, the A62 will be completely closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from the Landstuhl-Atzel junction and traffic will be routed via the U20 diversion along the L470, L363 and the K60.  The A62 will again be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The U7 diversion is signposted from the Bann junction along the K60, L363 and L470.

A Ramstein Air Base security forces senior noncommissioned officer who was accused in a social media post of bribing another airman to get a passing score on a physical fitness test has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the base said this week. Read more here.
Kaiserslautern is offering free bus rides for Christmas. Holiday shoppers heading downtown on the last two Saturdays before the holiday can ride all public city buses for free Dec. 10 and 17. This includes all buses of the SWK lines within city limits (Cell 800 on bus maps) and “DB Regio Bus Mitte” und “Regionalbus Westpfalz” buses for those traveling to and from the surrounding district. The offer serves to support city retailers, restaurants and Christmas market vendors and invites all to a shopping day without parking fees and traffic worries, Kaiserslautern city officials said.
Some areas of the KMC are seeing the first snow of the season. Colder air is moving steadily into Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland with an easterly flow, according to the German Weather Service. Roads at higher elevation are likely to be slippery this afternoon and into Saturday due to light snow and freezing wet weather. Widespread frost conditions should be expected as temperatures could drop below 27 F in parts of the region.
KMC area police conducted a car lock control day. After a swath of property thefts from unlocked cars, local police supported by military police checked vehicle doors in Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl und Rockenhausen yesterday. Officers found 137 unlocked vehicles with valuables inside, according to a statement by the Westpfalz department. Police informed the owners and reminded drivers to always lock their vehicle doors, no matter how short the stop.

It’s a jolly weekend in the KMC. Ramstein kicks off Christmas season tonight with its Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Arnold Circle at 5:30 p.m. Of course, there are tons of big Christmas markets underway. Here’s a roundup. There are also some smaller, single-weekend events going on, if that’s more your speed. The charming town of Kirchheimbolanden hosts its Christkindlmarkt with performers, vendors and food from Friday through Sunday. Ramstein’s Nikolaus Market features vendors, holiday treats and a giant Advent wreath in the city center on Saturday and Sunday. The Nikolaus Market in Huetschenhausen community center on Saturday features food and drinks from local clubs and a visit from Nikolaus himself. KMC Onstage opens Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat on Friday, and the lively Andrew Lloyd Webber musical continues through Dec. 11.
Kaiserslautern police are warning local residents to be on the lookout for motorists pretending to have car trouble. A parked dark Mercedes station wagon with Polish license plates was observed Wednesday morning on L356 between Ramstein and Huetschenhausen while its occupants attempted to wave down other cars. Police said the people are known to them for pretending to be in distress, such as falsely claiming their car has run out of fuel. Anyone who sees them or is approached by them should contact the Kaiserslautern police at 0631-35340.
A German poacher was convicted Wednesday in Kaiserslautern court of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole in the January slayings of two police officers near the U.S. Army post in Baumholder. Read the full story here.

Maintenance work will close Einsiedlerhof’s roadway in December. Work will require closure of a 920-foot section of Jacob-Pfeiffer-Strasse, between the junctions of Ramsteiner Strasse and Lichtenbrucher Strasse, from Dec. 7-14, Kaiserslautern’s civil engineering department announced. Traffic will be diverted via Von-Miller-Strasse and Carl-Billand-Strasse. 
Weston McKennie, midfielder with the U.S. Men's National Team started plying soccer in Otterbach, Germany.
A team USA midfielder got his start in soccer right here. Weston McKennie began playing youth soccer for Phoenix Otterbach, just north of K-Town, in the early 2000s while his dad was stationed at Ramstein Air Base, according to his USA soccer biography and local sources. McKennie moved on to the FC Dallas youth organization, before coming back to Germany to play with Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. In 2020, he signed with Juventus Turin in Italy’s Serie A. He has played 40 games for the USMNT, including all three at the World Cup in Qatar. McKennie left yesterday’s game, a 1-0 win against Iran, in the 65th minute with an injury. He is expected to be available when the U.S. plays the Netherlands on Saturday in the round of 16.

A verdict is expected today in the murder of two German police officers near a Baumholder military training area. Two German wildlife poachers stand accused of having shot two officers, who stopped their vehicle in the early morning hours of Jan. 31. The shooting is widely considered one of the most brutal police murders in the country’s recent history. A large media and audience presence is expected at Kaiserslautern district court. There was smoke but no fire at Five Guys on opening night. The fast food restaurant on Ramstein Air Base was briefly evacuated and closed Friday, Air Force officials said today. Video posted online by patrons showed firefighters on site and commenters speculated about a repeat of the fire incident that destroyed the Burger King at the same location in 2017. The problem was a blown fuse in a grill’s hood and duct system, an 86th Wing spokesperson told K-Town Now. The exhaust fan stopped working, resulting in smoke buildup and activation of a smoke detector. The Fire Department responded and verified no fire had occurred, and business resumed after less than 30 minutes of downtime. There are no safety issues or concerns, wing officials said.
An accident involving several vehicles is slowing traffic on northbound A62, between Kreuz Landstuhl-West and Hütschenhausen. Some lanes of traffic are closed. Drivers should expect an 18-minute delay, according to the ADAC.
