German law requires drivers to lock their vehicles when leaving them unattended.

Kaiserslautern police checked vehicles in the city and in Siegelbach Wednesday to see whether drivers were following the rule. Between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., officers found 17 unlocked vehicles, according to a Kaiserslautern police news release.

Officers spoke with vehicle owners, handed out informational flyers and reminded drivers to always lock their cars and avoid leaving valuables such as wallets, phones and bags inside.
