Former Eintracht Braunschweig player Erencan Yardimci gave the 1. FC Kaiserslautern a bounce-back 1-0 victory over the Lions in front of 44,053 fans at Fritz Walter Stadium on Saturday.
Yardimci spent last season on loan in the Lower Saxony city, where he scored five goals for the club.
His parent club, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, sent the Turkish forward on loan to the heart of the Palatine region, and Yardimci played the “joker” role to put the Lions further in crisis with their fourth loss in their last five matches.
Yardimci entered for captain Marlon Ritter in the 65th minute of a scoreless match and made his mark 8 minutes later.
FCK goalkeeper Julian Krahl launched the ball toward the corner and into the path of Yardimci, who beat Braunschweig defender Mehmet Aydin to it. With the ball in the 18-yard box, the Red Devil forward shot past his former teammate in goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann for the contest’s lone goal.
In the 20th minute, Krahl came up with a huge save to keep the match scoreless. Lion striker Jan Urbich found himself alone on goal at the end of a counterattack, but Krahl parried it away for a corner.
That proved to be the best chance of the match for the visitors.
With the win, the Red Devils move into fifth place on 11 points. After a long international break, FCK travels to third-place 1. FC Heidenheim for its next match on Oct. 9.
