A quick grocery run in Kaiserslautern may take a little longer than planned over the next few weeks.

Resurfacing work on Merkurstrasse that began Monday is causing significant traffic backups near Globus, with shoppers reporting lengthy waits to enter and leave the store’s parking lot.

The construction zone stretches from the Dehner/Globus intersection to Denisstrasse and is expected to remain in place through Sept. 14.

The work has worsened congestion at an already busy intersection that provides the only entrance and exit for the Globus parking lot. Some shoppers have reported spending more than an hour trying to leave the lot, according to social media posts.

Inbound traffic toward the city is closed through the construction zone, while outbound traffic is being detoured around the work.
