Parents rejoice! A new school year is right around the corner. Festival season is still in full swing throughout the Pfalz, and there’s plenty to get out and experience. Here are our top picks for things to do this weekend:
Weilerbach Wine Village: The Weilerbach soccer club is turning the town’s main street into a wine village with food and live music this weekend. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Friday and run through the weekend. Featured performances include DJ Tony B, acoustic band Dressinger Rock and solo singer Luigi Botta. The festival runs Friday until midnight; Saturday from 5 p.m. to midnight; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Kaiserslautern Street Food and Music Festival: Taste the world, feel the beat and love the moment as around 20 food trucks descend on the Messeplatz in Kaiserslautern this weekend. From juicy burgers and BBQ to exotic Asian and Latin flavors and sweet treats, there’s international food for everyone to enjoy. DJs will bring vibes throughout the weekend. Grub out Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from noon - 6 p.m. Click here for a list of food trucks and featured DJs.
Ramstein Anime Manga Market: Send your young anime fans back to school in style sporting their love of Japanese culture. Kawaii Events hosts a small convention and market at the Ramstein Congress Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Browse selections of plush toys and collectible figures, jewelry and accessories, artwork, handicrafts, and Japanese snacks. The event is rounded out by workshops, panels and gaming areas.
USO Back to School Bingo: The USO is hosting two family-fun bingo events to celebrate a new school year. Tasty snacks, friendly competition and prizes will keep everyone entertained. Register for either event at the USO Kaiserslautern website. Find the fun at Smith Barracks in Baumholder on Friday at 6 p.m. and the AMC terminal on Ramstein at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Schrollbach German American Friendship Festival: The village of Schrollbach invites all its American friends, families and neighbors to the Bolzplatz for a celebration of unity on Sunday at noon. Country line dancing, food and drinks and live music featuring U.S. Army Europe and Africa Band & Chorus’ Free Groove tie the friendship fun together.
