Keep an eye on your speedometer this week.

Police across the Kaiserslautern Military Community are increasing speed enforcement from today through Sunday as part of a Europe-wide speed camera blitz.

Drivers can expect more speed cameras than usual in residential neighborhoods and on roads throughout the region.

Excessive or inappropriate speed remains one of the leading causes of serious traffic accidents, according to Westpfalz police. Speeding not only increases the risk of crashes but also makes collisions more severe.

Officials said the campaign is not intended to maximize citations. Instead, the increased enforcement is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and improve road safety.
