The road between the Pulaski Gate and the Express on Kapaun Air Station will remain closed until at least Aug. 3, according to U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz officials.

The road closed in February for construction of a new Outdoor Recreation building and had been scheduled to reopen Friday. Garrison officials told Stars and Stripes on Thursday that the closure has been extended by just over two weeks.

A second phase of construction is expected to begin Aug. 3 and will shift traffic impacts to 5th Avenue, which runs from Kaiserslautern High School past the current Outdoor Recreation building. Officials said detour signs will direct drivers around the work area.

The new Outdoor Recreation facility is still expected to be completed next summer.
