The 1. FC Kaiserslautern did opponent the 1. FC Magdeburg no favors in their fight for survival with a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon in both teams’ 2. Bundesliga finales, although the match lacked drastic consequences in the end.
The win pushed the Red Devils into sixth place on 52 points, jumping over Hertha BSC. Magdeburg, meanwhile, faced a slim chance at falling into the relegation-playoff spot with the loss, but other results allowed the hosts to secure another season in German soccer’s second tier with a 14th-place finish.
FCK broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute. Magdeburg right back Herbert Bockhorn handed the ball in the box, and Kaiserslautern captain Marlon Ritter sent goalkeeper Dominik Reimann the wrong way while burying the penalty.
The Red Devils now enter the offseason ahead of their fourth-straight year in the 2.Bundesliga. The 2026-2027 campaign begins the weekend of Aug. 7.
