Live theater and outdoor activities abound in the KMC this Mother’s Day weekend

Don’t forget Mother’s Day is Sunday! But there’s no need to settle for the same old flowers and brunch. There’s plenty of excitement and outdoor fun to be had in the local area for a unique celebration. Here’s a look at a few of our top picks in the region:

“Legally Blonde” at KMC Onstage: Join Elle Woods and her canine companion Bruiser for a fun-filled musical adaptation of the 2001 blockbuster movie. Head over to KMC Onstage at Kleber Kaserne for opening night on Friday at 7 p.m. The show runs Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m., with additional performances May 15- 17. Hippie Market: Align your chakras and get groovy on Saturday at the Gelterswoog recreation area in Kaiserslautern. Around 40 vendors and exhibitors at the Ibiza Hippie Market will offer a range of fashion, jewelry, and decor. The market will be complemented by yoga classes, sound bowl massages, spiritual connections and jammin’ beats to chill out to. The event runs from noon- 9 p.m.

Baumholder Arts and Crafts Market: The town of Baumholder hosts a colorful, open-air market on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., at the Place de Warcq town square. Discover handcrafted artworks, creative one-of-a-kind pieces, and regional specialties that could make for a great last minute Mother’s Day gift.

Wolfstein culinary hike: Explore the sprawling landscape and panoramic views of Wolfstein on a casual 4-mile hike on Saturday and Sunday. Several local clubs, restaurants and vintners will offer up regional specialties at nine resting stations along the route. Live music from local party and swing bands will keep the energy going into the evening. The event runs on Saturday from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Admission is free, but participants can purchase a hiker package for 15 euros that includes a commemorative glass, drink tokens and other goodies.

May Car Show at Pulaski Park: Check out the KMC’s hottest autos, or enter your own whip for competition on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Pulaski Park. The event features five “best of” categories for jalopies, muscle cars, off-road, Japanese domestics, and old timers 25 year and older. The competition is open for all ID card holders regardless of SOFA status. The competition entrance fee is $10, and registration is open until event start time. You can also pay in advance at the automotive skills centers on Pulaski Barracks, Landstuhl, or Smith Barracks in Baumholder.

Mother’s Day string quartet concert: IC Strings is putting on a special “BaRock” performance on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Willow Church at the Kaiserslautern Garden Show. The afternoon of music will feature Baroque masterpieces and classic rock hits from Hendrix to Queen and more. The concert is included with entrance to the park.
