Dynamo Dresden handed the 1.FC Kaiserslautern its third straight shutout loss when the Red Devils fell 1-0 in Saxony’s capital city on Saturday afternoon.

As well as being goalless over the three-match stretch, FCK also fell to three teams — Holstein Kiel, Eintracht Braunschweig and Dresden — in or around the relegation zone at the time of each contest.

Dynamo controlled much of the first half with 60% possession and by outshooting the Red Devils 9-1. Yet, the match stayed 0-0.

Dutch striker Vincent Vermeij broke the stalemate with the match’s lone goal in the 68th minute. After charging toward the Kaiserslautern penalty area, Dresden midfielder Ben Bobzien laid the ball off to teammate Alexander Rossipal, who crossed the ball to the back post. Vermeij was there and scored from 7 yards out.

FCK couldn’t get anything going after that, and Dresden celebrated a home win and a five-point buffer from the relegation zone.

With the loss, the Red Devils stay in seventh place on 46 points with two matches remaining in the 2.Bundesliga season. FCK hosts its last home match of the season against Arminia Bielefeld on May 8. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
