Whistles rang around the Fritz Walter Stadium on Friday evening as a toothless performance by 1.FC Kaiserslautern ended in a 2-0 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig.
The loss put to bed the Red Devils’ slim promotion hopes, while the visitors moved away from the relegation zone ahead of their closest competitors’ matches this weekend.
The Lions took the lead in the 14th minute. FCK goalkeeper Enis Kamga, in his first-team debut, blocked a shot by Braunschweig midfielder Lino Tempelmann, only to fall to Faride Alidou. The forward put the rebound away.
Substitute Erencan Yardimci doubled the Lions’ lead in the 72nd minute. On a counterattack, midfielder Florian Flick found the forward, and Yardimci fired a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner.
The loss keeps Kaiserslautern in seventh place on 46 points. The Red Devils next travel to Dynamo Dresden on May 2.
