The 1.FC Kaiserslautern will try to keep its faint promotion hopes alive as well as deal a blow to Eintracht Braunschweig’s survival chances at Fritz Walter Stadium on Friday evening.

The Red Devils occupy seventh place with 46 points and trail third-place SV Elversberg by nine points with four matches remaining. FCK is not eliminated mathematically, but the team needs to win out and to get a lot of help for a chance to make the playoff.

Braunschweig, meanwhile, sit in the relegation playoff position with 31 points, tied with free-falling Fortuna Düsseldorf. The Lions are out of the direct relegation zone thanks to a better goal differential (negative-18 to negative-20).

The Lions used this season’s previous meeting between the two sides on Nov. 29 to spark a run that got them away from the drop zone heading into the winter break. The 2-0 win was the first of four straight positive results that netted Braunschweig 10 points.

The goals have dried up for Braunschweig, though. The visitors are tied with the second-fewest total in the 2.Bundesliga with 32, just ahead of Düsseldorf.

Friday’s match also pits one of the best home teams and one of the worst road teams in the league. The Red Devils are tied for the fourth-most home points (31), while the Lions have collected just 11 away points.

Kick-off is at 6:30 p.m. CET. A limited number of tickets are available on the team’s website.
