Commuters will no longer be able to use the Large Vehicle Inspection Site gate at Ramstein Air Base starting on May 4, according to base officials. Designed as a search gate for commercial vehicles, such as large trucks delivering supplies to base, the gate has long been open to personally owned vehicles entering and leaving Ramstein on weekdays. Private vehicles after May 3 should use the West or ROB-MC gates to get on Ramstein, base officials said, declining to say why the LVIS gate was closing to commuter traffic.
