Local police are cracking down on illegal vehicle modifications.
About 150 vehicles were stopped at police checkpoints in Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens last week, resulting in about 80 administrative offenses and six criminal offenses, according to a Westpfalz Police statement.
The checks were conducted on Good Friday, known among car enthusiasts as “Car Friday.” Police focused on modified vehicles to determine whether they were legal to drive on public roads.
The violations included suspension changes, modified exhaust systems and performance-related alterations that did not comply with German laws and regulations, according to the statement. Officers also identified uninsured drivers, document forgery and misuse of license plates.
Police will continue to check modified vehicles for road safety and hold drivers who make illegal modifications accountable, the statement said.
