The 1.FC Kaiserslautern took advantage of being up a man for more than an hour to defeat Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-0 at Fritz Walter Stadium on Saturday.

Düsseldorf defender Sima Suso received a red card for a denying a goal-scoring opportunity in the 22nd minute when he took down Kaiserslautern’s Norman Bassette.

That gave the Red Devils the man advantage, but it took the hosts until midway through the second half until they finally broke through.

In the 62nd minute, Fortuna tried to clear a corner, yet it fell to Marlon Ritter. The FCK launched the ball back into the box, where Jacob Rasmussen headed it into the net.

Midfielder Semih Sahin doubled FCK’s lead in the 76th minute with a shot from 16 yards out.

Sahin assisted Kaiserslautern’s last goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time, finding teammate Daniel Hanslik inside the 6-yard box.

The win keeps the Red Devils in seventh place on 43 points. They next travel to Berlin to face Hertha BSC on April 11.
