Former 1.FC Kaiserslautern manager Markus Anfang returns to Fritz Walter Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Red Devils host Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The contest comes nearly a year after Anfang, a former FCK player who made 27 appearances for the team from 2002-04, was fired as the Red Devils manager after less than one season in charge.
Just like in April 2025, Anfang is under pressure — albeit for a different reason.
Fortuna sits in 11th place in the 2.Bundesliga with 31 points. Despite being near mid-table, Düsseldorf has just a three-point cushion over Holstein Kiel, which occupies the relegation-playoff spot in 16th place.
Kaiserslautern, meanwhile, is stuck in no man’s land in seventh place with 40 points. The team is 11 points off the pace for promotion to Germany’s top division while enjoying a 12-point advantage against the teams in the relegation zone with nine matches remaining.
The Red Devils come out of the international break relatively healthy, with Naatan Skyttä, Ji-soo Kim, Norman Bassette and Mika Haas returning from national-team duty unscathed. That leaves just striker Ivan Prtajin, who tore his Achilles tendon on Jan. 31 vs. SV Elversberg.
The match kicks off at 1 p.m. A limited number of tickets are still available.
