Families are invited to take part in a St. Martin’s Day celebration hosted by Kaiserslautern’s Forestry Department on Tuesday evening.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at Rousseaustrasse 14, where participants will gather for a lantern walk through the forest to Wildpark Kaiserslautern. Along the way, the group will sing traditional songs before arriving at the wildlife park for a bonfire, hot drinks and refreshments.

St. Martin’s Day, or Martinstag, is a German tradition honoring St. Martin of Tours, known for his generosity and compassion. Celebrated on Nov. 11, it’s marked by processions, lantern walks and symbolic acts of kindness.

Participants are asked to bring a flashlight, cups for drinks and cash for refreshments. Open flames, including torches and cigarettes, are not allowed.
