A Cold War-era bunker once operated by the U.S. Air Force is opening its doors for an English-language tour in Kindsbach at 1 p.m. Saturday. The site originally served as NATO’s Air Defense Operations Center and housed the German Western Front headquarters during World War II.

Hosted by University of Maryland Global Campus, the tour will be led by historian Dr. Michael Mulvey, whose research focuses on urban and cultural history in modern Europe. Participants should arrive by 12:45 p.m. at the entry portal, located at Am Wingertshubel 18 in Kindsbach.

The underground facility has no electricity, so bring a personal flashlight and dress for cool, confined conditions. The tour may not be suitable for those uncomfortable with dark or enclosed spaces. Entry costs 10 euros.

Limited parking is available near the site, with additional spaces within walking distance.
