Falling leaves and wet sidewalks can create slipping hazards, Kaiserslautern officials warned in a Thursday statement.

Reusable leaf bags are available at city recycling centers on Daennerstrasse, Pfaffstrasse and Siegelbacher Strasse to help city residents manage cleanup and keep walking paths safe.

Starting Oct. 11, green waste containers will be stationed throughout the city for convenient disposal. Small amounts of leaves can also go in organic waste bins or be dropped off at recycling centers free of charge.

City crews are clearing public areas with sweepers, rakes and electric blowers, but property owners may be responsible for sidewalks near their homes, depending on location.

In private yards, officials recommend leaving leaves under trees and shrubs to protect soil and support natural decomposition.
