Red Grandy ©Stars and StripesWiesbaden, Germany, January, 1958: Jazz great Lionel Hampton leads his band — consisting mainly of former servicemembers — across the floor in a spirited rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In." No matter where we play some cat comes over with his horn and says, 'Hamp, can I sit in?' and I tell him to go grab himself a chair."
