Wilkes chat with a group of kids at Lichtenstern orphanage, a centuries-old former convent that by the mid-1950s housed about 140 children. American soldiers from the nearby 28th Battle Group at Heilbronn were sponsors of the orphanage, giving parties for the kids and helping out with needed work on the grounds.
