Hal Benedict, right, sporting lieutenant's bars thanks to his work as a movie extra, talks with actor Oskar Werner during filming of the World War II spy thriller "Legion of the Damned." Benedict and several other American soldiers were on TDY after being selected for speaking roles through a Special Services-sponsored talent hunt. The movie, based on George Howe's book, "Call It Treason," was later renamed "Decision Before Dawn" because, according to director Anatole Litvak, "it had been impossible to convince the German press and public that the former title of the 20th Century-Fox film did not refer to the German people."
