Henry Toluzzi ©Stars and StripesEast Berlin, May, 1950: With an enthusiasm that may have been tested as they spent the next two generations or so standing in line to buy soap, marchers at a pro-Communist Freie Deutsche Jugend, or Free German Youth, rally urge fellow East Berliners to reject the U.S.-funded Marshall Plan. Between 1948 and 1952, the Marshall Plan sent a total of over $12 billion in goods and services to European nations recovering from World War II.
