The students, according to the Stars and Stripes photo caption, "horned in on a labor union rally" held in opposition to Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida, who dissolved the lower house of Japan's parliament and called for a new election after it voted to throw out his government. "The Reds carried on their rally for several hours after the union workers had gone home," the caption noted.
