From the archives: A Spanish sailor aboard a frigate in the Strait of Gibralatar, 2003

A Spanish sailor looks through a pair of binoculars aboard the frigate Numancia as a U.S. military cargo ship travels in the Strait of Gibraltar in 2003. NATO ships began escorting U.S. and allied civilian shipping vessels to deter terrorist attacks. The escorts are part of Operation Active Endeavour, NATO’s largest maritime mission in its history.
