From the archives: Service members ask Japanese actress for autograph, 1959

Tokyo, November 19, 1959: Actress Sonomi Nakajima acts surprised as a group of service members hold out their napkins for her autograph. The service members visited the Toho film studios and were treated to lunch.

The fourth USO Pal Day in Tokyo was the biggest ever, with more than 260 Americans from small branches of the service taking part. They were guests of Japanese firms and citizens.

Many went on tours, joined U.S. Ambassador Douglas MacArthur II for lunch and were invited to private homes during the evening.
