From the archives: A soldier visits an orphanage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2003

Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina Oct. 11, 2003: Sgt. Shauna Farrell of 86th Medical Company Air Ambulance from Massachusetts gives candy to the little ones during a visit to Vojo Peric orphanage in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday.

About 20 American soldiers and civilians visit once a month, bring gifts like candy, school supplies, toys, hygiene and cleaning products, and play with the children for a couple of hours.

Even soldiers who do not come along for the visits pitch in with donations and items sent to them from their home, said Spc. Kara Loveland of 467th Medical Detachment from Madison, Wis., who coordinates the visits with help from Combat Stress Control Center.
