FOB MACKENZIE, Iraq, November 9, 2004: Nine soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division’s 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment received Purple Hearts on Forward Operating Base MacKenzie, Iraq, for injuries received this year during Operation Iraqi Freedom. That brings the number of 1/4 Cavalry soldiers receiving Purple Hearts to 34, said Lt. Col. Jim Chevallier, the squadron commander. There will be more: During the ceremony, a convoy rolled in carrying four soldiers who had been wounded by a roadside bomb near the base, as well as the body of an Iraqi National Guardsman killed in the same attack.
