Pershing Heights, Tokyo, Sept. 21, 1953: Tri-service honor guard ceremonies were held this morning for Maj. Gen. William F. Dean at the U.N.’s Pershing Heights headquarters as a farewell tribute to the 54-year-old hero who departs for the States late this afternoon. Dean was presented the U.N. plaque from General Mak W. Clark, on behalf of the command, as a token of appreciation for his heroic actions both as a commander of the 24th Division and while he was a prisoner of war.
