Berlin, Germany, January 31, 1947: Peter Dattel is the sole survivor of 8,000 children who were taken to concentration camps from Berlin. The person sitting next to him is possibly Julius Mayer, who accompanied Peter’s mother Ruth to meet her son at the border with Czechoslovakia. Mayer was in Auschwitz at the same time as the Dattel and used to feed Peter.
