FORT DIX, New Jersey, Feb. 9, 2003: New York Times reporters Steven Lee Myers, left, and Eric Schmidt find a space in the heated tent and prepare to heat up Meals-Ready-Eat. The two were part of a group of 60 journalists who went through the third installment of a “media boot camp,” held. Temperatures during the one-week training session dipped into single digits as the journalists learned about a variety of military combat operations, such as the procedures for when troops take direct and indirect fire while on foot or in a convey.
