Okinawa cross country finals
When –
4 p.m. Wednesday.
Where – Cape Zampa, Yomitan, Okinawa.
What – Final meeting of the Okinawa season between its two DODEA schools, Kadena and Kubasaki, and Zion Christian and host Okinawa Christian. It’s the only meet of the season to be held at an off-base, beachfront location along Okinawa’s west-central coast, a 3.12-mile course mapped out at Cape Zampa, also known as Bolo Point, about six miles west of Torii Station.
Runners to watch – Kadena has had the strongest boys and girls teams over the course of the season, going unbeaten in the five regular-season meets. Hayden Bills, a junior, won the boys races in the last three regular-season meets, running a season-best 17 minutes, 43.0 seconds in the fourth meet on Camp Foster on Sept. 27. While the Panthers went unbeaten as boys and girls teams, Kubasaki sophomore Elizabeth Joy won four of the last five regular-season races, including the fourth race at Camp Foster in 21:08, matching her personal best recorded in the Okinawa finals a season ago.
