What – First of two meetings this regular season between the teams that competed for the 2016 Far East Division I championship. ASIJ won both games between the teams in 2016, 34-20 last Oct. 15 and 35-18 in the Nov. 12 championship game; both contests were played at Mustang Valley. ASIJ travels to Kadena for their second regular-season go-round Oct. 13 at Ryukyu Middle School.
Players to watch – It’s been a ground-based attack that’s carried the Panthers thus far in two games: a total of 818 yards with 10 rushing touchdowns. Senior Cody Sego had 190 yards and three TDs on 13 attempts, junior Uriah Morris 15 carries for 174 yards and two scores and newcomer Eric McCarter - a junior - 277 yards and five scores on just 12 carries. … Mustangs junior quarterback Oliver Rogers carried much of the load in their 32-12 loss Sept. 8 at Nile C. Kinnick: 21-for-41 for 197 yards passing and two touchdowns and 54 yards on 13 attempts. Senior running back Jo Tsusaka has 136 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries and junior Andrew Howe 12 carries for 74 yards and a score.
